When the Air Jordan 11 Low debuted in 1996. The shoe’s designer, Tinker Hatfield, reasoned that patent leather had no place on a summer shoe. It wasn’t until 2001 that the Air Jordan 11 Low released with a patent leather overlay. This custom Varsity Red pair substitutes premium red snakeskin for the original patent leather the model came with. The “Cherry Red” model was among those introductory J11 low colorways, complete with a ballistic mesh upper and translucent rubber outsole.
